Wasim Huleihel received the B.Sc. and the M.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering from the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Beer-Sheva, Israel, in 2012 and 2013, respectively, and completed his Ph.D. studies in 2016, also in electrical engineering in the department of Electrical Engineering at the Technion, Haifa, Israel. His research interests are in the areas of information theory, and relationships between information theory, statistics, detection, and estimation. His academic supervisor during his PhD studies was Prof. Neri Merhav. Wasim is the recipient of the Vatat Fellowship for excellent Ph.D. students, and the 2013/14 Feder Award for Best Student Work in Communications Technology, granted by the Advanced Communication Center at Tel-Aviv University (first prize). Wasim is currently a postdoctoral fellow in the Research Laboratory of Electronics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, where he is hosted by Professor Muriel Medard.

Wasim’s main field of research is information theory and its relations with statistical mechanics, communication theory, and statistical signal processing. In his Ph.D. studies, he focused on exploring the conceptual and technical aspects of possible connections between statistical mechanics and information theory. Using these connection he addressed some important information-theoretic questions that lie at the interface between these disciplines and other related fields. In parallel, he has worked also on some central problems in the theory of multi-user communication, where he has derived fundamental limits on the transmission of coded data over a certain class of multi-user noisy channels.
